Eating gluten free food
If you have coeliac disease the only treatment is to strictly eat gluten free food. Every time you eat. Otherwise, you will trigger an autoimmune reaction.
Some people with coeliac disease feel discomfort relatively short after eating gluten, others have a silent reaction where they do not feel anything special. In both cases the immune system is triggered and causes damage to the small intestine.
Long term exposure to gluten will eventually cause health issues. Coeliac disease is known as a multi system disorder. It means that symptoms can affect any area of the body. Symptoms differ between individuals in terms of type and severity.
How do you manage a gluten free diet?
Following a gluten free diet can be easier than you think. Grains and their flours that do not contain gluten, like buckwheat and quinoa, can be used to make a range of gluten free foods. Many staple foods are naturally gluten free such as meat, fish, eggs, vegetables, fruits and milk.
